WHY
NORTH WARD
RUGBY CLUB?

From its inception, North Ward Rugby Club has aimed to be more than a sports club. Whilst the obvious purpose is to play rugby and have fun, the club has taken a proactive approach in developing a culture off the field which is the envy of the competition.

Our junior club, take the ethos very seriously and the junior club’s mantra is “good children before good footy players”.

This has been one of the key factors to the success in the club’s growth in recent years with parents and carers recognising the effort the club is making in this aspect of their children’s social development.

In 2021 a small group of parents codified this club ethos and produced a defining document - the “CRABS CODE”. It articulates everything we would like our young players to strive toward, both in relation to their effort on and off the field and around the game, but in their effort and interpersonal interactions off it as well.

The senior club are also fully committed to their players and volunteers conducting themselves to the highest standards, both on and off the field. “Effort gets Reward” has been a catchphrase around the senior teams for the last few years, culminating in the first A Grade grand final appearance for a very long time. Perhaps equally important is the long-lasting friendships which are created.

Joining North Ward Rugby Club is to join a family-oriented club, where winning is celebrated, but not at all costs. Where the journey is embraced, and the development of young people, into good young adults, is celebrated as much as premierships. The ideals that rugby is built upon are alive and well at North Ward.
